Jaipur: With the new academic session in govt schools starting Wednesday, teachers have objected to keeping student admissions open till July.Under the revised academic calendar, all classes will face a unit test in May before summer vacation. Teachers say students enrolling in July would miss nearly three months of classroom teaching, making it difficult to bridge the learning gap.As per the academic calendar for 2026-27, the first assessment will be conducted from May 13-15 across govt schools, and the second assessment will be from Aug 17-19. From May 17 till June 20, schools will remain closed for summer vacation.This year, to increase enrolment in govt schools, the state govt started the academic session from April 1, aligning with private schools following other boards. The department is also conducting a door-to-door survey in four phases to identify children of school-going age and enrol them.The final deadline for admissions for classes 9 to 12 remains July 11, 2026, whereas admissions for classes 1 through 8 remain open throughout the session.“The rationale behind keeping admissions open till July 11 for classes 9-12, despite starting the new academic session on April 1, remains incomprehensible. How and when is the teacher expected to initiate and complete a three-month curriculum for students, specifically those admitted on April 1 versus those admitted on July 11?” asked Vipin Prakash Sharma, state president of Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers Association.In this academic session, summer vacations have also been reduced by 10 days, a move that many teachers associations in the state have opposed.
