Jamshedpur: Twelve deaf students belonging to economically weaker sections of the society and residing in West Singhbhum have secured admission to Carmel Bal Vihar (CBV) School in Sonari, with full residential support facilitated through Tata Steel Foundation’s inclusion programme for the differently abled, Sabal.The initiative aims to address the educational and communication barriers faced by hearing-impaired children in remote tribal and rural areas by enabling access to formal schooling, hostel facilities, and specialised learning support.The students, aged between 12 and 14 years, live with varying degrees of hearing and speech impairments. Sonaram Tiriya, 14, belongs to a farming family and has 88% hearing and speech impairment. Suraj Munda ,13, faced a difficult childhood after parental separation. The mother of Ramsingh Hessa, 12, earns a livelihood through small-scale vegetable cultivation.Carmel Bal Vihar School principal Amika AC said, “With appropriate academic support and an inclusive learning environment, deaf students can perform well in their studies and improve their future employment prospects.”TSF’s head of skill development, disability, and sports, Captain Amitabh, said, “Access to education remains critical for ensuring equal opportunities for children with disabilities.”
