Dhanbad: Wasseypur’s gangland script—one that once spilled from cinema screens into the public imagination—turned violent again on Monday when two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at a general store in Bhuli More, leaving three people, including the brother of jailed gangster Fahim Khan, injured.The incident took place around 11am. Fahim’s brother, Shanu Khan, 60, who lives on Qamar Makhdhoomi Road in Wasseypur, around 500 metres from the spot, was sitting at the shop owned by Saddam Khan when the assailants fired several rounds and fled.Shanu sustained a bullet injury to his arm, while Saddam, 25, suffered two bullet wounds. Kumkum Parween, 18, from Uttar Pradesh, who was visiting a relative in the area, was shot below the waist while buying essentials at the store.The three were taken to a private hospital in Bank More. Saddam and Kumkum were later referred to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital, while Shanu was admitted to the private hospital.The firing triggered panic among residents of Wasseypur.City SP Ritwik Srivastava said police teams had examined the scene and recovered empty cartridges. “CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being examined and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved,” Srivastava said.The incident took place days after Bunty Khan, the brother of fugitive gangster Prince Khan, was paraded in Wasseypur following his arrest in Kolkata. Prince is Fahim’s nephew. While Fahim is lodged in Ghagidih jail in Jamshedpur, Prince is reportedly operating his gang from abroad.Police sources suspect that a gang rivalry in Wasseypur may have led to Monday’s firing. The possible involvement of Prince is also being investigated, the sources said.In recent months, district police have intensified their crackdown on Prince’s criminal network and arrested several of his aides.Shanu had reportedly survived another firing incident near Alinagar about a year ago. Police are examining whether Monday’s attack is linked to that incident or to previous threats allegedly received by him.
