VIRUDHUNAGAR: A woman was killed and her daughter critically injured after a man attacked them with a sickle near Kalkurichi in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Wednesday morning.The accused, identified as Yuvaraj, allegedly committed the crime after the woman, Varsha, expressed her reluctance to go ahead with their marriage.According to police, the two, who are relatives, got engaged two months ago. However, recent differences led Varsha to call off the wedding, reportedly angering Yuvaraj.The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning when Varsha was standing outside her house. Yuvaraj allegedly arrived with a sickle and launched an attack on her. When Varsha’s mother, Vinayaga Jothi, attempted to intervene and protect her daughter, Yuvaraj turned the weapon on her.Vinayaga Jothi succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Varsha, who sustained severe injuries in the attack, was rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.The Mallankinaru police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation. Following the attack, Yuvaraj was arrested by the Mallankinaru police.
