Varanasi: After talks with BHU administration during a meeting that continued till midnight on Wednesday reached no outcome, academicians including assistant professors and senior position-holders declared on Thursday their plan to stage a mega protest on Apr 6.
The academicians met the vice chancellor to press their demands, including immediate removal of barriers to career progression under notional increment, prior service counting and Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP).
They claimed all their demands were in accordance with UGC norms applicable to other universities and blamed deputy registrar office for distorting and misinterpreting university rules, causing deep resentment among the entire teaching community.
They alleged confidentiality of recommendations made by grievance committee constituted by BHU executive council was breached and that report was being delayed deliberately by the same officials. As per rules, the committee’s report was supposed to be sent to the higher grievance committee for review, but the member secretary submitted the report directly to the registrar, which is a clear violation of rules.
They highlighted that for past four years, notional increment and promotion under DACP in the medical college had been blocked unjustly, forcing the university faculty to run from pillar to post. This has not only caused irreparable damage to their careers but also brought serious financial and mental distress to their families.
The protestors warned that if justice was not delivered, they would send detailed report to the Prime Minister’s Office and carry out phased protests in a democratic manner from Apr 6.
The protestors said officials of university administration kept hindering the process of organising direct dialogue between them and VC, and even succeeded in their bid, as the talk could not materialise.
