Patna: A speeding SUV collided with a police patrol vehicle near high-security BP Mandal roundabout, close to the chief minister’s residence, under Secretariat police station area on Sunday.The incident occurred while the SUV, travelling at a high speed, rammed into a moving patrol vehicle of Shakti Suraksha Dal—a special unit formed under Patna Police to protect women, students, and girls in the city. Due to the collision both the vehicles were damaged. The SUV then smashed through the guardrail and continued forward briefly before coming to a halt.
A woman police officer was injured in the accident. Soon quick-response personnel at the spot controlled the situation and Gandhi Maidan traffic police and local police team immediately reached the spot.DSP Traffic-III, Ajit Kumar, who also rushed to the spot, said: “A patrol vehicle was hit by a SUV. The front portion of both the vehicles was damaged in the incident. A female police officer was injured, while the other personnel were safe. The SUV driver and four other occupants were detained and taken to the police station for questioning. The SUV was travelling at a high speed and broke through the guardrail.”Kumar said an FIR was filed based on the statement of the police driver. When asked about such an incident in the high-security area, the DSP said: “We are constantly taking action against over-speeding. We take action against those who are negligent.”
