Patna: The CBI has intensified its probe into the alleged rape and death of a medical aspirant from Jehanabad district with teams re-examining evidence at the girls’ hostel in Patna where she was found unconscious and conducting detailed interrogations.On Sunday morning, an 18-member CBI team reached the victim’s residence in Jehanabad at around 9am. The officers questioned her parents, neighbours and several villagers for nearly five hours. The interrogation focused on eight specific questions the agency is pursuing as part of the investigation, including the late-night calls made by the girl to her father on Dec 26, 2025, and her sudden visit to her native place the following day, among other aspects.
The victim’s father described the interaction as constructive. “Around 18 CBI officers arrived. They questioned my wife and me. The atmosphere during the interrogation was very positive, which gives us hope that we will now get justice.” He added that he shared the complete truth with the team and reiterated the family’s demand: “We are fighting for the truth and are continuously demanding the arrest and strict punishment of those involved in this incident.”The investigation team also inspected various parts of the house and examined documents and materials provided by the family. The officers assured the family that the probe would be conducted impartially and strictly on the basis of facts.The agency’s action followed a detailed search operation on Saturday at the girls’ hostel in Patna where the student had been residing while preparing for the NEET. The team spent around three-and-a-half hours examining the premises. Forensic samples were collected from books, notebooks, clothing, room corners, the door, window and floor of the victim’s room.Investigators scrutinised every page of her books and notebooks for references to pressure, threats, relationships or indicators of her mental state. Forensic analysis will assess handwriting, indentations and possible hidden notes. Information from the student’s diary was cross-verified with records compiled by the earlier SIT.The forensic team lifted micro-samples from all corners of the room, including beneath the bed, lower sections of the walls and the floor, searching for traces of blood, semen, hair, fibres or signs of physical force that may have been overlooked. Bedding items — sheets, mattress and pillows — were packed for detailed examination of stains, creases and fibre patterns. Fingerprint and touch DNA samples were collected from high-contact surfaces such as the doorknob, handle, lock and window grill to determine whether any outsider had entered the room.Digital devices recovered by the SIT, including the victim’s mobile phones, chargers and laptop, are being sent for forensic examination. The analysis will include call logs, chat histories, deleted data, location records and internet search history, which will be correlated with available CCTV footage to construct a precise timeline.After completing the hostel inspection, the CBI team visited private hospitals to review medical records, the Leave Against Medical Advice (LAMA) report and statements of attending doctors.The case relates to Jan 6, when the medical aspirant was found unconscious in her hostel room and later died after remaining in a coma for several days. Allegations of sexual assault, supported by post-mortem findings and the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, triggered widespread outrage. The case was initially investigated by Bihar Police through an SIT before being handed over to the CBI amid demands for a fair and transparent inquiry.
