Patna: A 60-year-old woman died after being hit by a speeding 102 ambulance at Rasidpur locality under the Town police station area in Sheohar district early Sunday. The deceased was identified as Hridaya Devi, wife of late Suresh Rai of Rasidpur.According to police, the incident occurred around 4.30am when the elderly woman was standing by the roadside. Local residents rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Villagers caught the ambulance driver, who admitted to having consumed alcohol while on duty. Police took him into custody and initiated legal action.
Aggrieved family members and villagers blocked the Shivhar–Sitamarhi NH-227 for several hours demanding strict action against the driver.Upon receiving information, Traffic DSP Bhai Bharat Kumar and Town SHO Randhir Kumar Singh reached the spot with a police team and pacified the protesters. “Police controlled the situation and arrested ambulance driver Subhash Singh, a resident of Amba under Piprahi police station area. During interrogation, he admitted to drinking alcohol. The ambulance has been seized and the body sent for post-mortem,” the SHO said.He added that the ambulance had been deployed at Dekuli Dham for security and health arrangements for Mahashivratri. The driver was heading towards Dekuli Dham at high speed in the empty vehicle.
