Bhubaneswar: Suspended inspector of Odisha police, Sujit Kumar Das, appeared before the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAWCW) here on Tuesday for questioning in connection with a rape case registered against him.Das is accused of sexually assaulting a 40‑year‑old woman while serving as inspector‑in‑charge of Sarankul police station in Nayagarh district. An FIR was lodged at the station on June 17 following her complaint.The probe was later transferred to CAWCW. Das, who was placed under suspension on June 22, has already obtained interim protection from arrest from the Orissa high court, police sources said. “As directed by the high court, he appeared before us today. His statement has been recorded. If necessary, he will be subjected to a polygraph test,” a CAWCW official said.According to the survivor’s complaint, she had approached Sarankul police months ago seeking help in a land dispute. Instead of assistance, she alleged she was sexually exploited by Das. She submitted evidence including WhatsApp chats and screenshots of video calls between them to substantiate her claim.
