Rourkela: Three persons, including two women, were arrested here on Tuesday for allegedly trafficking a 20-year-old woman from Rourkela to Madhya Pradesh, where she was allegedly sold for Rs 2 lakh, forcibly married and subjected to physical assault. The three accused have been identified as Gayatri Senapati (34), Kusumati Devi (37) and Sheikh Asraf Ali (29).Police said the victim, a resident of a locality under Plantsite police station limits, lodged a complaint alleging that she was lured with the promise of a job and taken to Madhya Pradesh in June. Investigations revealed that she was allegedly sold to a man in Ashok Nagar district for Rs 2 lakh.According to the FIR, the accused allegedly forced the woman into marriage with another man and confined her in Madhya Pradesh. When she attempted to escape, she was allegedly assaulted. Following repeated requests, she was eventually allowed to board a train to Rourkela on July 11 and returned home.After her return, the woman confronted one of the accused over the incident but was allegedly threatened with dire consequences, police said.Based on her complaint, Plantsite police registered a case. Inspector-in-charge of Plantsite police station B K Pradhan said, “A police team will be sent to Madhya Pradesh to apprehend the remaining accused.”
