Pune: A student pursuing an MSc in Data Science at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) was arrested by Shivajinagar police on Monday morning after he entered the residence of MLC Neelam Gorhe with the alleged intention of committing theft and tampering with the water connection of her bungalow in Model Colony, Shivajinagar.Shivajinagar police registered a case against him for trespassing and attempted theft and seized a hammer, pliers and other equipment. Gorhe was out of town when the incident occurred.Senior inspector Girish Dighavkar said the student (21) is a native of Satara and lives in the boys’ hostel on the SPPU campus and is pursuing an MSc in Data Science. According to CCTV footage, the youth entered the terrace at around 3 am and remained there until morning.Speaking to reporters, Gorhe said a security guard spotted the youth at 6.15 am on the terrace while checking for the water supply. “The water connection had been cut. The reason for stopping the water supply appears serious. Although documents indicate he is a student, it needs to be established why anyone would stay on a house’s terrace for so many hours carrying such articles.”“We suspect the student was unaware it was Gorhe’s bungalow. We are questioning him further,” Dighavkar said.
