Ludhiana: A sudden shift in weather patterns brought much-needed relief to the city on Sunday, as morning showers and sustained winds pulled daytime temperatures below seasonal norms. However, the cooling trend comes with a caveat, as meteorologists issued a “yellow alert” for the region, warning of impending thunderstorms and high-velocity surface winds. The mercury dipped to 30°C on Sunday — 2°C lower than the previous day — offering residents a break from the recent spring heat. While the city remained under a thick canopy of clouds for most of the afternoon, the Met department predicts the atmospheric instability will persist through the mid-week.The weather office has placed Ludhiana on notice for Monday and Tuesday, advising government departments and the public to remain “updated” on inclement conditions. For Monday and Tuesday it has issued a yellow alert in effect for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. For Wednesday and Thursday, forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.Despite the rain, daytime highs are expected to climb back to 32°C by Thursday, while night temperatures will fluctuate between 18°C and 20°C.A ‘Pleasant Change’ for ResidentsFor locals, the shift was a welcome reprieve. After a stretch of warm, dry days, the windy conditions turned local parks into hubs of activity. “The weather was becoming quite warm recently, but the rain has brought a pleasant change,” said Ludhiana resident Jagtar Singh. Nine-year-old student Sumaira echoed the sentiment, noting it was “great to play in the park” under the cooler, overcast skies.
