Madikeri: A court has sentenced a step-grandfather to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years for sexually assaulting a minor girl.According to special prosecutor BS Rudraprasanna, who argued the case on behalf of govt, after the death of the minor survivor’s father, her mother remarried. Later, after the mother also died, the girl’s stepfather left the girl in a children’s home.Then, the girl’s step-grandfather (stepfather’s father) Mahadeva, got the girl released from the children’s home and took her and her minor sister to his house to look after them. Later, he sexually assaulted the girl several times. The incident came to light after the survivor informed her schoolteacher about her ordeal, and the schoolteacher filed a complaint with police.After registering the case, Kodagu police arrested him and submitted a chargesheet.After the charges were proven, the third additional district and sssions court judge Surendra G sentenced Mahadev to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 under the provision of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for rape.In the verdict on Friday, the judge also ordered that the survivor is given compensation of Rs 9 lakh, stated a release.
