CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin was on Monday admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road here after he complained of discomfort. He has been advised rest for three days and prescribed a few other tests for evaluation, said a release from Dr Anil B G, hospital director of medical services.“Stalin is expected to continue discharging his duties in his official capacity from the hospital during his stay,” said the release sent by Dr Anil at 9pm. Earlier, deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said his father was hospitalised after he complained of giddiness. “He will undergo some medical tests and return home in a couple of days,” Udhayanidhi said, adding that doctors have advised Stalin rest.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, actor Rajinikanth and Makkal Needhi Maiam president and actor Kamal Haasan spoke to Stalin over phone and wished him a speedy recovery. The chief minister has been receiving a series of calls from other political leaders wishing him a speedy recovery.AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said he would pray for Stalin’s good health. On Monday, the 72-year-old complained of giddiness during his morning walk and returned home early.After breakfast, he went to DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam, where he received former AIADMK minister Anwhar Raajhaa, who joined DMK, and later held a meeting with CPM state secretary P Shanmugam. Following this, he again complained of discomfort, party sources said.He was then taken to the hospital. At 12.50pm, Apollo Hospitals’ director of medical services Dr Anil BG said Stalin was admitted “for evaluation of symptoms, and necessary diagnostic tests are being done.”Stalin skipped the morning event at Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Arts and Science College campus in Kolathur, where he was scheduled to distribute Rs 10,000 educational assistance, along with book bags and learning kits, to 762 students. The CM’s event to launch programmes and disburse welfare measures in Tirupur and a CREDAI event in Coimbatore have been postponed, officials said.
