Coimbatore: At its 91st Annual General Meeting held on Monday the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC), pressed for the early establishment of the Greater Coimbatore Development Authority to ensure holistic urban planning.ICCIC adopted a comprehensive set of resolutions aimed at accelerating the city’s infrastructure and economic development. Key demands included the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport, including runway extension, terminal expansion, customs counters, and restoration of international connectivity under bilateral air service agreements. The chamber also urged the Railways Ministry to expedite station redevelopment, increase platforms, and expand train services—particularly Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express, while introducing new routes to Hyderabad, Mangalore, and Thiruvananthapuram.It also reiterated the need for phased implementation of Coimbatore metro and expansion of key highways and flyovers. It emphasised the urgency of completing long-pending projects such as the Coimbatore eastern bypass and Avinashi Road flyover.On taxation, ICCIC called for a GST tribunal area bench in Coimbatore and improvements in GST audit procedures. Other resolutions included setting up decentralised sewage treatment plants, promoting rooftop solar by removing network charges, bridging the digital divide, and supporting responsible AI development.
