Thiruvananthapuram: The dairy development department has launched a special milk testing drive and information centre in the district ahead of Onam to ensure that consumers have access to pure and unadulterated milk.A special testing camp will be conducted at District Quality Control Laboratory at Pattom from Thursday to Monday. Milk samples from various brands available in the market will be subjected to physicochemical analysis at the laboratory.If the tests detect milk that is of poor quality or unsafe for consumption, the findings will be shared with the food safety department for further action, officials said.The department has also made arrangements for dairy farmers and members of public to get milk samples tested free of cost at the laboratory.For quality testing, a minimum of 200ml of milk should be provided as a sample. In the case of packaged milk, the packet should be submitted without opening the cover. The sample should be taken to the laboratory immediately to ensure accurate testing.The quality control officer urged public and dairy farmers to make maximum use of the facility.A permanent milk testing facility operating round the clock has also been established at the Parassala border to monitor the quality of milk arriving in Kerala from neighbouring states.
