Thiruvananthapuram: Tension prevailed at Govt Medical College Hospital on Monday when relatives and SFI activists allegedly blocked a team of Tamil Nadu Police personnel who arrived from Karungal to conduct procedures related to the postmortem of 21-year-old nursing student Ansiji, who died on Sunday.Ansiji was found severely injured last Friday at the private nursing college campus at Karungal near Marthandam in Kanyakumari district. She reportedly jumped from the college building after the college authorities allegedly accused her of bringing a mobile phone into the campus.The Karungal police team reached Thiruvananthapuram Medical College early Monday for the postmortem as part of the investigation into Ansiji’s death. However, the police personnel were reportedly confronted by the student’s relatives and a group of SFI activists on the hospital premises. The relatives alleged that TN police are trying to sabotage the case by helping the college management.The incident led to a tense situation, with the activists preventing the Tamil Nadu police team from proceeding with their duties. The situation continued for nearly an hour, during which arguments were reported between the police personnel and the protesters. Medical College police subsequently intervened and brought the situation under control. The protesters were dispersed, and the Tamil Nadu police team was allowed to proceed with the procedures connected with the postmortem.Ansiji’s death has also triggered protests at the college campus in Tamil Nadu. Karungal police are investigating the case.The postmortem will be held on Tuesday, and it is expected to provide crucial evidence to the investigating team regarding the circumstances and possible cause of death.
