Varanasi: Right leg of a woman was severed on the spot when a in the e-rickshaw Varanasi Municipal Corporation dumper crashed into the e-rickshaw in which she was commuting, in the city on Saturday afternoon. In the accident, four other women commuters and the driver were injured too.According to eyewitnesses, the dumper was moving at high speed in Sundarpur. To allow passage to an oncoming ambulance, driver of the dumper accelerated and it went out of control, hitting the e-rickshaw. The impact caused injuries to the driver and women commuters.Local residents rushed Sheela Devi, 55, whose leg was severed in the accident, to Trauma Centre. Four other women sustained minor injuries and received treatment too. The e-rickshaw driver, Rambabu, was also injured.After the accident, the dumper driver tried to flee, but locals caught him and beat him up. Police from Sankat Mochan outpost reached the spot, rescued the driver from the crowd and took him into custody.Vegetable vendor Sheela Devi, resident of Tikri village under Chitaipur police station limits, was returning home in the e-rickshaw from Sundarpur market, along with four other women from her village when the transport vehicle met with the accident.Police seized the dumper and started an investigation. The driver is being questioned.
