Bengaluru: More than 43.8 lakh voters in Karnataka are set to receive notices during the next phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), beginning Aug 24. This accounts for 9.8% of the state’s 4.5 crore voters on the draft rolls, according to data from chief electoral officer Anbu Kumar’s office. The CEO’s office has not yet announced a list where voters can check whether they are set to receive notices. Officials are considering publishing such a list at the booth level, while keeping voters’ privacy concerns in mind. The mechanism is likely to be finalised before the Aug 24 draft rolls.Nearly one in two notices in the state will be issued in Bengaluru. BBMP North, South and Central zones, along with Bangalore Urban district, account for the highest number of recipients at over 24 lakh.Notices will be issued to two categories of voters on the draft rolls: those who could not be mapped to the 2002 data, and those who were mapped but whose records showed logical discrepancies. The system identifies about nine types of discrepancies, including differences in the spelling of a parent’s name compared with the 2002 rolls. The notices are part of the ‘claims and notice’ phase of SIR, during which affected voters will be required to address the discrepancies identified in their records.
