Srinagar, Sep 15: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is all set to witness a reduction in traffic congestion at multiple junctures, with authorities planning to introduce slip lanes to improve traffic movement.
“Traffic congestion on MA Road is a big problem,” said Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Fazlul Haseeb, who is also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
“We have had a discussion with Engineers, Smart City and R&B to reduce this congestion,” he said.
The Commissioner said that a couple of designs are being prepared at Sangarmal and Jehangir Chowk, and work will commence in this regard soon.
“With these decisions, the traffic improvement will be witnessed with small interventions,” he said, adding, “We will discuss and come up with an enforcement plan with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic in future.”
At present, we are planning to introduce slip lanes and make some small interventions to ease the traffic flow towards Munawarabad road, Haseeb said.
Srinagar has witnessed frequent traffic congestion, especially during the peak morning and afternoon hours, causing difficulties to commuters and pedestrians alike.
A number of vehicles could be seen stuck in traffic congestion around Lal Chowk during peak hours, leaving commuters to lurch at large.
However, such small interventions, according to the CEO SSCL, are set to bring positive changes on the ground, which would help ease the traffic flow around crucial junctures.
