Guwahati: Six people died after a traveller vehicle collided with a truck in Sonapur on Sunday night, police said.The bodies were taken to Sonapur Civil Hospital, while police began a preliminary investigation, said traffic ADCP Shafeequl Hussain.“Police from Sonapur police station have arrived at the spot and are investigating the matter,” Hussain said.He said the accident involved a traveller vehicle travelling from Nagaon district towards Kamrup (Metro) and a truck heading towards Nagaon from Guwahati.Police were working to establish the identities of the deceased and determine the circumstances leading to the collision.The accident occurred on a stretch of NH-27. During the preliminary investigation, traffic police indicated that poor road conditions may have contributed to the accident. According to the initial assessment, the traveller vehicle reportedly lost control after encountering a damaged section of the road before colliding with the truck.Police were continuing to investigate the exact circumstances. Further details were awaited.A large crowd gathered at the accident site, disrupting traffic on the highway as people converged to assess the situation and assist those affected.An eyewitness at the site told the media that the crowd was blocking the road to protest against its poor condition.“We are blocking the stretch because the road conditions have remained extremely poor. Despite repeated accidents, the NHAI officials have failed to repair the ditches and damaged portions of the road. They continue to collect toll at the toll gates, but there has been no visible improvement in the condition of the highway. We want the authorities to take immediate action and ensure that the road is repaired immediately,” the eyewitness said.
