Thiruvananthapuram: A 62-year-old security guard was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Kilimanoor early on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Babukuttan of Nagaroor. He was working as a security staff member at a Royal Enfield showroom in Pappala along the MC Road.According to preliminary information, the accident occurred around 6am when Babukuttan, who had just completed his night shift, stepped onto the road. A speeding minivan reportedly knocked him down and fled the scene without stopping. Locals rushed the man to a hospital using a 108 ambulance. He was first taken to Kadakkal taluk hospital and later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital. However, he succumbed to severe head injuries despite medical efforts. Police sources said the vehicle involved is suspected to be a minivan bearing a Thrissur registration. It is also learnt that the occupants of the vehicle were returning after visiting the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at the time of the accident. Kilimanoor police launched an intensive investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the vehicle. Efforts are under way to track down the driver who fled the scene without offering assistance to the victim.
