Kanpur: Ahead of Independence Day, the Kanpur City Police commissionerate conducted extensive security checks and surveillance drives across the city.Barricades were set up at all district borders and major intersections, and intensive checking of vehicles and suspicious persons was carried out.Police teams also conducted special security checks at crowded locations, including markets, railway stations, bus stations, malls and other public places. To strengthen security arrangements, Dog Squad and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) teams were deployed. Continuous surveillance was maintained on social media platforms by the Social Media Cell. Meanwhile, Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) teams patrolled sensitive areas in plain clothes to keep a watch on suspicious activities. Police patrol teams also monitored routes earmarked for Tricolour Yatras and other Independence Day-related programmes.In addition, managers of hotels, lodges and dharamshalas were instructed to immediately report any suspicious person or object to Dial 112 or the nearest police station.“Comprehensive security measures have been put in place across the city, particularly at venues earmarked for flag-hoisting ceremonies and other vital installations. Police, PAC and paramilitary personnel have been deployed, while Cyber Cell teams are monitoring CCTV feeds, social media platforms and suspicious communications to prevent any anti-national activities,” said additional police commissioner (law and order) Vipin Tada.
