Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a significant milestone in ticket checking, registering a record revenue of Rs 223 crore in the 2025-26 financial year.The zone surpassed the Railway Board’s target of Rs 221 crore for the current financial year, achieving it 14 days before the end of the year. This is the highest revenue ever generated from ticket checking in a single financial year. The previous best was Rs 220.81 crore in 2023–24.During the year, the zone also generated a record Rs 1.85 crore in ticket-checking revenue in a single day on Oct 18. Revenue was generated from cases involving irregular travel and unbooked luggage. According to the South Central Railway (SCR), ticket checking plays a vital role in curbing ticketless and irregular travel, acting as a deterrent against habitual defaulters and thereby contributing to increased ticket sales through booking windows. It also helps to raise awareness among the general public of the importance of having valid travel documents.Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, SCR general manager, stated that ticket checking is an effective mechanism for curtailing irregular travel, and also helps build confidence among genuine rail passengers.Furthermore, ticket checking aids in guiding and educating passengers on the ease and comfort of travelling with valid tickets. Apart from the booking office, officials said that several digital initiatives for issuing tickets have been introduced into the ticketing system to enhance passenger convenience and boost ticket sales.
