Ahmedabad: The Sanand Industries Association (SIA) held a joint meeting with officials of Gujarat Gas Limited and industrial representatives from GIDC Sanand to discuss the impact of reduced natural gas supply due to the conflict between US, Israel and Iran.SIA president Ajit Shah said industries in the estate reported that the shortage was affecting operations across several units, many of which are part of the automobile supply chain and supply components to manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki and Honda. He warned that continued disruption could slow production and, if component deliveries are interrupted, may force temporary shutdowns at some units.Industry representatives said any stoppage could have a ripple effect across the wider supply chain and create employment stress, as the Sanand GIDC estate supports a large workforce, including many migrant workers. To minimise disruption and protect jobs, SIA proposed prioritising gas allocation by categorising industries based on essential requirements and critical supply-chain linkages.Officials of Gujarat Gas — M K Venkat Subramaniam and Harshal N Nayak — said efforts would be made to maintain supplies to the extent possible and urged industries to ensure disciplined consumption of natural gas.
