Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt on Monday said that liquor worth over Rs 42 crore was seized from the border checkposts near Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in the past two years, govt stated in written reply to a question by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala in the state assembly.In the written reply, the govt said that 10,49,855 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 38.89 crore and 1,59,265 bottles of beer worth Rs 3.33 crore were seized in a two-year period ending Jan 25. The govt added that 1,018 people were arrested in connection with the seizures while 141 were absconding. In reply to another question by AAP legislator Gopal Italia, the state govt said that 32,465 cases were registered in two years against people found consuming liquor without a permit in Ahmedabad and Vadodara districts. 17,311 cases were registered against persons found consuming liquor without a permit in Ahmedabad district, while 15,154 such cases were recorded in Vadodara district as of Dec 31, 2025. Listing the various actions being taken to control liquor smuggling, the govt stated in the written reply that preventive measures were being taken against those supplying liquor. The govt said measures such as cases under prohibition provisions and action under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act were initiated against them.
