Ahmedabad: A 31-year-old microbiologist working with a pharmaceutical company in the city was allegedly duped of Rs 2.3 lakh after fraudsters posing as bank officials convinced him to increase the limit on his credit card. Krishnanagar police registered an offence on Saturday and launched an investigation into the cyberfraud.According to police, the victim holds a credit card issued by a private bank. Police said that on Feb 24, at 4.49pm, the victim received a call from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as an employee of the bank and informed him that he was eligible for an increase in the credit limit of his card. The victim accepted the offer. The caller told him that another executive would contact him shortly to complete the process. Within minutes, he received another call from a different mobile number, with the caller again claiming to be from the bank’s credit card department. The victim remained on the call for about 10 minutes. The caller later informed him that the credit limit would be enhanced in 24-48 hours . Shortly after the call ended, the victim received two SMS alerts indicating transactions of Rs 2.3 lakh.
