Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary, who is also the chancellor of Bihar Engineering University (BEU), on Saturday urged graduating engineers to move beyond salaried jobs and create employment opportunities for others.Addressing the university’s third convocation at Gyan Bhavan, Samrat said the event was not merely a degree-distribution ceremony but an occasion that would shape Bihar’s future. It was his first convocation address as BEU chancellor.Highlighting the state’s focus on technical education, he said students in govt engineering colleges pay a monthly tuition fee of Rs 10, while those in polytechnic institutes pay Rs 5. “Such an arrangement may perhaps exist nowhere else in the world,” he said, adding that all 38 districts now have at least one state-run engineering college.Samrat said an engineer’s true identity is defined not only by academic qualifications but also by innovation, technical competence and service to society. He added that the 21st-century economy rests on knowledge, technology and innovation, and states investing in education would emerge as economic leaders.The CM said Bihar’s development depended on its youth acquiring knowledge through research and modern technology. Referring to efforts to revive the state’s educational legacy, he said the process of re-establishing Vikramshila University was under way and that 220 acres had been provided to the Union govt for the project.During the programme, Samrat remotely inaugurated infrastructure projects at engineering colleges in Jamui, Kishanganj and Supaul. He also visited an exhibition set up by the university, while vice-chancellor Prof Suresh Kant Verma welcomed him with a bouquet and memento.
