An elevated road that will connect Ashok Rajpath to the multi-level parking facility at Patna Medical College and Hospital

Patna: City’s ambitious Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover is set to be linked to the multi-level parking facility at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The facility will ensure smooth traffic flow.An engineer of Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) said the connectivity work between the flyover and the multi-car parking facility has been completed, with the finalisation of civil work of two-lane elevated service road. “The link has been provided in accordance with the elevation and layout of the two structures,” he added. The connecting stretch is approximately 50-metre-long each. According to the engineer, vehicles approaching from the Gandhi Maidan side will be able to move towards the parking facility through the designated elevated route, connecting to the level-5. The Tier-I, starting from Patna College, will provide direct access to the parking space on the third level. The project involves building three ramps — two connecting to the upper deck of the flyover and one to the lower deck, officials said. The engineer said the parking facility currently has two levels and there is no plan to add a third level at present.A ramp system has also been provided to facilitate the movement of vehicles between the lower and upper sections of the 11-storey parking structure. The direct link forms part of the broader traffic management plan associated with the Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover, connecting the 2.2-km stretch between Gandhi Maidan and Patna Science College, and 1.7-km stretch from Patna College to B N College. The latest connectivity work is expected to improve access to the parking facility once the hospital administration decides on its operational use. The engineer clarified that the parking facility is under construction and its utilisation may be decided by the administration as required.PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Kumar Singh told TOI that the multi-level car parking is a part of Rs5,540-crore PMCH redevelopment aimed to build a 5,462-bed smart medical campus. “According to the engineers, the parking facility will be ready by Dec end this year. Once it is completed, the elevated section will be open for traffic movement,” he said.
