Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched an ambitious redevelopment of its iconic Smruti Mandir complex at Reshimbagh, with a new state-of-the-art Maharshi Vyas auditorium emerging as the centrepiece of a nearly ₹300-crore project aimed at modernising its historic premises.Sources said the existing auditorium has been demolished to make way for a larger, technologically upgraded facility that RSS plans to complete before its triennial Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), scheduled to be held in Nagpur in March 2027.The new auditorium will have a higher seating capacity to accommodate delegates from across the country and will be equipped with modern audio-visual systems and upgraded infrastructure. A grand statue of Vyas is also proposed within the complex, while sculptures and murals depicting eminent national personalities will be installed to inspire younger generations.The redevelopment extends beyond the auditorium. Except for the recently constructed Smruti Bhavan and Madhukar Bhavan, three older buildings within the Smruti Mandir campus will be demolished. A seven-storey building is planned on the site, although construction is expected to begin only after the March 2027 representative meeting and is likely to be completed over the following three years.According to sources, the entire redevelopment project is estimated to cost around ₹300 crore. They said the project is being financed entirely through contributions from RSS volunteers in response to an appeal by Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, without financial assistance from govt or corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.The Reshimbagh redevelopment follows the completion of RSS’s campus at Keshav Kunj in Delhi. Spread over more than 3.75 acres, the redeveloped campus comprises three towers of 12 to 13 storeys, around 300 rooms and office spaces, besides a modern auditorium, library, medical centre and dining facilities. The project, completed at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore, was inaugurated in February 2025.The redevelopment of the Smruti Mandir complex is expected to strengthen the infrastructure of the RSS campus, which remains the ideological and organisational nerve centre of the century-old organisation.
