Ahmedabad: An on-duty railway staff team saved a passenger from a potentially fatal accident at Ahmedabad railway station under Western Railway on Monday.According to railway officials, the incident took place at around 4am when the Bandra Terminus to Bhuj train was departing from the station. A passenger attempting to board a general coach slipped and fell into the gap between the moving train and the platform. Head constable Kishori Lal Balai of the Railway Protection Force, who was on duty at the platform, immediately rushed to help and tried to pull the passenger to safety. However, due to the increasing speed of the train, he was unable to secure the man alone. At that critical moment, assistant sub-inspector Raman Kumar and constable Chhotu Lal of the RPF crime prevention and detection squad, who were present, acted in time and, without concern for their own safety, ran to the spot and successfully rescued the passenger. The passenger was identified as Mahendra, 42, a resident of Surat, Gujarat. He said he was travelling with his family from Surat to Gandhidham and had stepped onto the platform at Ahmedabad to buy tea and snacks. He escaped without injury.
