Patna: A 32-year-old man was allegedly murdered with an iron rod and a knife while he was asleep at his home in Kachanama village under Makhdumpur police station area in Jehanabad district on Saturday night. The victim, Kamlesh Kumar, was the husband of a ward member.Angry over the murder, villagers blocked the road for nearly six hours, demanding the immediate arrest of the killers and the presence of senior police officials at the spot. Police suspect the crime may be linked to an alleged illicit relationship or a dispute related to the sand trade.According to preliminary information, Kamlesh was sleeping in a room on the ground floor of his house, while his wife, Kanchan Singh, a ward member, and their child were sleeping on the terrace.On Sunday morning, the couple’s child found Kamlesh lying in a pool of blood inside the room and alerted family members. News of the murder quickly spread through the village, and residents gathered outside the house. Family members alleged that Kamlesh had been attacked with a knife and an iron rod.The murder triggered outrage among local residents, who demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible. Protesters first blocked the Sagarpur-Makhdumpur road for around five hours and later extended the agitation to NH-22 for nearly an hour, disrupting traffic movement in the area.After receiving information about the murder and the road blockade, SDPO-2 Kirti Kamal and police teams from several police stations reached the spot. The officers held talks with the victim’s family and protesters and assured them that efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused. Following the assurance, the protesters cleared the roads and traffic resumed.Sadar SDPO-2 Kirti Kamal said, “Police are examining the case from several angles, including a suspected dispute linked to the sand trade. We are also looking into an alleged relationship between Kamlesh and a woman from the village as another possible angle.”
