Begusarai: A woman and her husband were allegedly shot at while the couple was asleep at their home in Begusarai district on Saturday night after the latter objected to a man posting her photographs on social media, police said. The main accused has been arrested, while raids are underway to nab his associate.The incident occurred at Chhoti Mauje village under Bakhri police station area. The injured were identified as Karishma Paswan (24) and her husband Chhotu Mahto (26), a resident of Sanha village under Sahebpur Kamal police station area. The couple was admitted to the sadar hospital, where doctors said their condition was stable. Chhotu had come to his in-laws’ house on Saturday to meet his wife, who had been staying there, where the incident took place.Speaking to reporters at the hospital on Sunday, Karishma alleged that her co-villager, Jitendra Yadav, had uploaded an edited photograph of her on Instagram around eight months ago. “My husband, who works outside the state, objected to it and asked Jitendra not to indulge in such activities in future,” she said.Karishma alleged that while she and her husband were asleep on Saturday night, Jitendra entered the room with an associate and opened fire on them before fleeing. “He was accompanied by another person. After shooting at us, both escaped,” she claimed.According to local residents, Karishma and Chhotu had come in contact through social media and married about a year ago.Begusarai SP Manish Kumar said police launched an investigation immediately after receiving information about the incident. “Preliminary investigation suggests the incident stemmed from a dispute over the posting of a photograph on a social media platform. The main accused, Jitendra Yadav, has been arrested. Raids are being conducted to nab the other accused,” he said.However, some residents claimed that Karishma was active on social media and that Jitendra had posted her photograph after she allegedly uploaded a picture of his sister online.
