Kanpur: A reel filmed by the daughter-in-law of a retired sub-inspector while sitting on the Superintendent of Police’s chair inside the Auraiya SP office triggered a controversy after it went viral on social media, prompting departmental action. Following directions from SP Abhishek Bharti, the woman deleted the video and her Instagram account after tendering an apology.The incident took place on Tuesday after a farewell ceremony for retiring police personnel at the SP office. Retired sub-inspector Nem Singh, who was posted at Dibiyapur police station, was among those honoured at the event, which was attended by his family members.After the programme ended and the auditorium was vacated, Singh’s daughter-in-law, Soni Chaudhary, sat on the SP’s chair and recorded a reel, which she later uploaded to her Instagram account. The video went viral on Wednesday evening, creating a stir within the police department.After learning about the viral reel, SP Abhishek Bharti ordered immediate action. Singh and his daughter-in-law admitted their mistake and apologised. Soni also released a video apologising for the incident and deleted her Instagram account, which had around 16,000 followers.Bharti said: “After she apologised and was warned not to repeat such an act in the future, she was let off.”Singh said his family had attended his retirement ceremony at the SP office. “After the programme ended, my daughter-in-law recorded the reel. As soon as I came to know about it, I got the reel deleted,” he said.
