Kanpur: The bodies of a young couple were found hanging from a tree with a single rope on Thursday morning in Mahoba district. The incident took place in the Charkhari police station area.Police reached the spot after receiving information and found a mobile phone, an empty cold drink bottle and chips wrappers there. The cops also found vermilion in the girl’s hair parting, though she was unmarried.Villagers said the two allegedly performed marriage rituals before their deaths and considered themselves as husband and wife.The two had reportedly been in a relationship for the past three years. Both wanted to marry but, as they belonged to different castes, they feared opposition from their families and society and kept their relationship a secret.The duo went missing from their homes on Wednesday night, and their families filed missing persons complaints at the police station.The girl allegedly left home saying she was going out for an errand but did not return. The boy also did not return home after work.At around 5am on Thursday, villagers spotted the two hanging from a mango tree, nearly 500 metres from the man’s house.Circle officer Deepak Dubey said both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and the forensic team collected evidence from the scene. Dubey said police were investigating the matter from every angle and that further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report and other evidence.
