Veteran actress Rekha and actor Pankaj Tripathi gave fans an adorable moment in Melbourne, as the former playfully turned teacher and tried to give the ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ actor a quick English lesson. A video of the fun exchange, shared by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on Instagram, has since caught the attention of fans online.
Rekha gives Pankaj Tripathi a cheeky English lesson
In the video, Rekha is seen instructing Pankaj Tripathi to repeat everything she says in English. She said, “Abhi main jo bolungi na Pankaj ji woh aap Angrezi main boliye (Now, whatever I say, you will say in English).” She then said, “To all the lovely people of Melbourne To all the lovely people of Melbourne,” but Pankaj ended up repeating the line in Hindi instead.Correcting him, Rekha said, “No, in English. Come here and say, To all the beautiful people of Melbourne.” To this, Pankaj humorously responded, “Ma’am, main Hindi medium ka chatra hun galat bol dunga (Ma’am, I am a Hindi medium student. I will say it wrong).” Rekha, however, didn’t let him off easily, and the two eventually said together, “To all the lovely people of Melbourne. There is no business like show business. So, welcome to our world, and thank you so much for welcoming us to your world. Thank you so much. See you soon. Love you. Jai Hind.”
Rekha at IFFM for ‘Umrao Jaan‘ screening
Rekha is attending the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), as her 1981 classic ‘Umrao Jaan’ is set to be screened at the event. Directed by Muzaffar Ali and based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa’s Urdu novel ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’, the film won four awards, including Best Actress, at the 29th National Film Awards.
Rekha to be honoured and hoist the Indian flag
The festival will honour Rekha with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award for her remarkable contribution to Indian cinema. As part of IFFM’s Independence Day tradition, she will also hoist the Indian national flag in Melbourne on August 15, marking India’s 79th Independence Day. The festival concludes on August 23.
Pankaj Tripathi’s work front
On the work front, Pankaj Tripathi will next feature in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the film is slated to hit theatres on September 4, 2026.
