Jaipur: Elections to Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) will be held on Sept 29, with administrator Bhaskar A Sawant placing the detailed election programme before Rajasthan High Court Monday.The election process will formally begin on Sept 7 with the issuance of notices for the election programme and the general meeting.As per the schedule submitted before the court, objections to the voters’ list can be filed between Sept 12 and 16. The objections will be heard by the returning officer between Sept 16 and 21, following which the final voters’ list will be published on Sept 23.The nomination process will begin on Sept 24, while scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on Sept 25. The list of eligible candidates will be published on the same day. Candidates will have time till Sept 28 to withdraw their nominations.If voting is required, polling will be held on Sept 29, with the election results also scheduled to be declared on the same day.The schedule was submitted in compliance with High Court’s July 1 order, passed while hearing a public interest litigation filed by former Ranji player Rajiv Pratap Singh. The court had suspended RCA’s ad hoc committee and appointed IAS officer Bhaskar A Sawant as administrator of RCA.Sawant, who is also the state’s Home Secretary, was directed by the court to conduct RCA elections at the earliest and place the election programme before it.The court is hearing a public interest litigation in which it is alleged that RCA’s ad hoc committee was constituted on June 29, 2024, only as an interim arrangement and was given the responsibility of conducting elections within three months.The petitioner alleged that elections were not held within the stipulated period and that the tenure of the ad hoc committee was repeatedly extended. This, according to the PIL, prevented the formation of a democratically elected executive body in the state cricket association.
