Pune: Antony Lara Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Antony Waste Handling Cell Ltd, which operates the waste-to-energy (WTE) plant at Moshi garbage depot, has decided to increase the compensation for the families of the nine people who died in the July 8 garbage heap collapse.The company’s HR head, Sunil Neve, said the compensation would be hiked from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh per family. The decision comes amid demands from the victims’ families and local corporators for a compensation of Rs 1 crore each.“We had several meetings with the members of the victims’ families, PCMC and other stakeholders following which the decision was taken to increase the compensation amount,” Neve told reporters in Pune. He further said the company will also provide medical insurance coverage to the immediate family members of each deceased worker.The company has also initiated the process of providing employment to one member per victim’s family and assured that the education expenses of the victims’ children would be taken care of, he said. “Rs 10 lakh each has been already transferred to the victims’ families and another Rs 10 lakh will be transferred on Monday, while the remaining Rs 20 lakh will be transferred within the next two weeks,” Neve said.PCMC has already transferred Rs 10 lakh each to the families of seven of the nine victims, while the state govt has also announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for each family.
