Jaipur: The technical committee of State Wetland Authority, Rajasthan, has recommended the notification of three wetlands under the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2017. The sites include Talab-e-Shahi in Dholpur, Jaseri Talab in Jaisalmer and Shivsagar Shiwar Talab in Sawai Madhopur. The committee found the proposals compliant with the rules.Additionally, District Environment Committee, Dholpur, has proposed to designate the Ramsagar-Talab Shahi wetland complex as a Ramsar site. An official stated, “A review meeting of the technical committee was held under the chairmanship of Vijai N, Secy, DoE&CC. Now the proposals will be forwarded to the CM, head of the wetland authority, for notification and Ramsar site designation. The proposal will be sent to MoEFF after state approval.”Shivsagar Shiwar Talab wetland in Shiwar village spans 60 hectares, with a catchment area of 90.7 hectares, supporting diverse flora and fauna including flamingos and sarus cranes. It “provides irrigation to around 50 villages and supports fisheries, contributing to groundwater recharge and flood buffering,” the proposal noted.Jaseri Talab, covering 4.6 hectares, has a zone of influence of 170 hectares and “serves as a drinking water source for nearby villages” while supporting local biodiversity and tourism related to Paliwal Brahmin heritage.Talab-e-Shahi in Dholpur spans 324.1 hectares, with a 178.5-hectare zone of influence, supporting migratory and resident birds and possessing historical significance linked to Talab-e-Shahi palace and garden complex. The proposed Ramsar complex covers 1,543.4 hectares and is critical for over 180 bird species along the Central Asian Flyway.
