Gurgaon: Cloud cover, intermittent drizzle and gusty winds brought relief from the heat in the city on Friday, with temperatures dropping significantly after thunderstorms and rainfall affected several parts of Haryana early on Friday.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius on Friday, 2.9 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 20 degrees Celsius, 6.7 degrees below normal. The city received 2.5 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30am on Friday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.In Gurgaon, Sohna recorded the highest rainfall at 14 mm between 8am on June 11 and 8am on June 12. Kadipur and Harsaru received 7 mm each, while Gurgaon tehsil recorded 6 mm. Pataudi and Farrukhnagar received 3 mm each, and Manesar received 2 mm. Only drizzle was reported from Wazirabad and Badshahpur.IMD has forecast that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph may continue at some places across Haryana over the next two days.According to IMD data, the state’s average maximum temperature dropped by 4.1 degrees Celsius compared with the previous day and remained 5.1 degrees below normal. The state’s average minimum temperature also fell by 4.2 degrees Celsius and was 4.9 degrees below normal.The weather department attributed the change in conditions to a western disturbance and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining areas. It also noted that conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of central and western India.Meteorologists said maximum temperatures may fall by another 2-4 degrees Celsius before rising gradually. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at some places across the state during the next 24 hours.Officials have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms as strong winds may uproot trees, bring down branches, disrupt traffic and cause localised power outages.
