Gurgaon: A man was arrested for allegedly duping people through a fake Facebook page by offering cows and buffaloes for sale and collecting money in the name of registration and other formalities.The accused, Sajid, a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, was arrested by the Cyber Crime South police team from U-Block, DLF Phase-3. Two mobile phones allegedly used in the fraud were recovered from his possession.Police said Sajid, along with an associate, operated a fake Facebook page named “Chaudhry Dairy Farm” and used it to target buyers looking for cattle online. “After buyers showed interest, the accused allegedly demanded payments on the pretext of completing documentation and transport-related procedures, including registration, GPS tracking and obtaining no-objection certificates from different states,” the officer added.During the investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly cheated a victim of around Rs 90,000 after promising to sell a cow. Police further stated that the accused allegedly kept 30% of the fraud amount as commission and transferred the remaining money to his associate.A case has been registered at Cyber Police Station South under sections 318(4) (cheating), 319 (impersonation) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS.The recovered mobile phones are being examined to identify other victims, associates and bank accounts linked to the alleged fraud, police said, adding that an investigation is underway to nab those associated with the racket.
