Silchar: Fresh track subsidence near New Harangajao has raised concerns along NF Railway’s Lumding-Badarpur hill section after continuous rain.Subsidence was reported around km 118/1-3 near New Harangajao station, where restoration work is underway. A portion of Line 2, which had earlier suffered extensive damage, has reportedly sunk again.Train services on Lines 1 and 2 have remained suspended since July 24 following soil subsidence. Northeast Frontier Railway is operating limited services through the alternative Line 3 while repairing the damaged tracks.Heavy rain has renewed concerns over soil and slope stability. Sources said parts of the damaged embankment near km 118/1-3 had subsided again, potentially complicating restoration work.Railway authorities now face the challenge of stabilising the soil and securing vulnerable slopes while rebuilding the tracks.New Harangajao is among the vulnerable stretches of Lumding-Badarpur hill route and has witnessed repeated landslides, subsidence and track damage during heavy rain.With Lines 1 and 2 closed, train operations largely depend on Line 3. Further deterioration could threaten rail connectivity between Barak Valley and the rest of Assam.The disruption has also led to the cancellation and rescheduling of several trains, adding to passengers’ uncertainty.
