Kanpur: The monsoon remained active in Kanpur Nagar on Monday, with moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts bringing relief from sultry weather.The city received around 20.4mm of rain between Sunday morning and Monday morning, followed by another spell of moderate to heavy showers during the afternoon.CSA weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said that Kanpur recorded an average of around 17.6mm rainfall during the afternoon. The showers, however, exposed inadequate cleaning of drains and nullahs by the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, with waterlogging reported in several low-lying areas.The two days of rain brought down the maximum temperature to 27.6°C, which was 4.4°C lower than Sunday’s maximum. The minimum temperature stood at 25.2°C. Maximum and minimum relative humidity levels were recorded at 93% and 98%, respectively, while south-westerly winds blew at around 3.6kmph.Pandey said more rainfall was likely in the coming days. With high atmospheric moisture and new weather systems increasing moisture flow, cloudy conditions are likely to prevail across the Kanpur division from August 18 to 21. Intermittent strong winds and light to moderate rain are expected, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning.Weather models and historical data indicate that intermittent rainfall is likely to continue across the division for the next three days, with around 10-15mm of rain expected daily.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast active monsoon conditions across all districts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours, from August 17 to 18, with moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning likely.In Kanpur Nagar, cloudy skies are expected to persist, with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely at some places. Rainfall activity may intensify further during the night.
