Prayagraj: In a major action against encroachment, the Prayagraj division of North Central Railway carried out a large-scale anti-encroachment drive at the Gau Ghat area near the Old Yamuna Bridge. The operation, conducted on Saturday, was led by Divisional Railway Manager Rajneesh Agarwal and resulted in the successful clearance of illegally occupied railway land.The drive was coordinated by additional divisional railway manager (General) Deepak Kumar, with active support from the district administration. Teams from the railway, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and civil authorities jointly carried out the operation in a planned and peaceful manner.During the drive, approximately 6,500 square metres of railway land was freed from illegal occupation. Officials estimated the market value of the reclaimed land at around Rs 100 crore, highlighting the significance of the action. A team of around 20 railway engineering staff, including officials from estate and infrastructure departments, actively participated in the operation. From the RPF, several officers and personnel were deployed to maintain law and order. In addition, the district administration and civil police provided strong support, with officials from multiple police stations and nearly 60 police personnel present at the site.Railway authorities emphasised that any form of encroachment on railway land is strictly illegal and warned that such drives will continue in the future. They also appealed to the public to avoid illegal occupation of railway property and report any such activities.
