Prayagraj: Residents, public representatives and district officials took up self-enumeration exercise for the houselisting operations (HLO) phase for Census 2027 on the first day on Thursday. Prayagraj district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma told TOI, “I initiated the process by conducting self-enumeration of my residence on the portal and obtained a unique ID number. He noted that, unlike previous iterations involving traditional paper-based procedures, the census will be entirely digital. This time, the administration has provided citizens with the ‘self-enumeration’ option, enabling individuals to directly enter their details on the portal.First phase of the census has been divided into two phases. From May 7 to May 21 and citizens can personally fill in details. Subsequently, from May 22 to Jun 20, census enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits to verify data and carry out the house listing process. To utilise the self-enumeration option, citizens need to log in to https://se.census.gov.in. The process involves selecting one’s state and registering using a mobile number and email address.Following OTP verification, users must select their preferred language and district. Thereafter, they are required to mark the precise location of their home on a map and answer questions pertaining to their household and family. On submitting the form, an 11-digit “Self-Enumeration ID” will be generated; citizens must provide this ID to the field enumerator to complete their census enumeration process.Officials, meanwhile, said the census is not merely an exercise to estimate the population count, it is a pivotal process for collecting vital socio-economic data—such as age, gender, literacy levels, and economic activity—which serves as the foundation for formulating future policies and development schemes. Moreover, the authorities of the Prayagraj district administration have also provided small videos to citizens that are helpful to fill self – enumeration on portal. With the Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases including house listing and housing census (HLO) and population enumeration (PE), the self -enumeration exercise will be completed between Thursday (May 7) and May 21.Similarly, the House Listing and Housing Census (HLO) will start from May 22, to June 21 and all details about condition of houses, amenities available to the household and assets possessed by the household will be collected. With self-enumeration began on Thursday itself, respondents can log into the SE portal (se.census.gov.in) using their mobile number and other basic details, and complete the census schedule at their own convenience.Officials claimed self-enumeration option provides flexibility to fill the information at one’s own convenience before the enumerator’s visit to make house to house enumeration in their allocated blocks as in the previous censuses.
