The Government of Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is committed to safeguarding the dignity, security and constitutional rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.To ensure that victims of atrocities receive timely financial assistance and rehabilitation, the Government provides support under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995A unique scheme which provides immediate financial relief to victims and their families, helping them cope with the immediate social and economic impact of such incidents while ensuring access to justice.
Scheme at a Glance
Implemented across all 75 districts by the Department of Social Welfare, the scheme provides financial assistance to eligible Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe victims following registration of offences under the Act. Relief is provided according to the notified Schedule and released in phases to ensure timely support. Eligible beneficiaries may also receive rehabilitation, legal aid and medical assistance, wherever applicable.Chief Minsiter of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath personally reviews the implementation of scheme from time to time with clear instructions to safeguard the well being of SCs and STs members in the best possible manner.
Who is Eligible?
Any Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe victim of an offence registered under the Act is eligible for financial assistance. In cases involving death, the prescribed relief is provided to the victim’s dependent family members or legal heirs.
Nature of Assistance
Financial assistance is provided as per the notified Schedule. Depending upon the nature of the offence, the relief amount ranges from Rs 85,000 to Rs 8.25 lakh. Relief is released in stages linked to investigation and trial, ensuring continued financial support throughout the legal process.
Application Process
No separate application is generally required. Once an FIR is registered under the Act, the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and the Department of Social Welfare initiate sanction and disbursement of financial assistance. Victims and their families may also approach the District Social Welfare Officer for assistance.
Protecting Rights, Restoring Dignity
Over the last seven years, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has disbursed more than Rs 1,447 crore as financial assistance to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe victims affected by atrocities. Through financial relief, rehabilitation and legal support, the scheme ensures that victims are not left to face the consequences of atrocities alone. It reflects the Government’s commitment to protecting constitutional rights and advancing equality, dignity and social justice.
