Lucknow: Banthra police on Saturday arrested a power department employee accused of abetting his wife’s suicide suicide last year. The accused, Ajit (32) had been absconding for the past five months, and was finally nabbed from his home on Mar 7.According to police, Ajit is accused of harassing his wife, Ishika Gautam, for dowry, which allegedly led her to hang herself at their residence on Sep 15, 2025. Her brother Santosh Kumar lodged a complaint on Nov 25 at the Banthra police station accusing Ajit and 10 others of cruelty. An FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 85 (cruelty by husband/relatives), 115(2) (abetment of suicide), 352 (assault), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 108 (abetment), among others.
