LUCKNOW: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Barabanki unit on Saturday arrested a drug trafficker from the Chowk area of the city recovering 5.54kg of heroin, estimated to be around ₹12 crore in the international market.The ANTF team received information that a suspected trafficker was arriving in the Chowk to deliver a consignment of heroin. Acting on the tip-off, the team laid a trap near a park located opposite Aga Bakar Imambara, under the jurisdiction of Chowk Police Station, and intercepted a suspicious individual.
The accused, identfied as Mohammad Imran, is a resident of Tikra Murtaza village under Zaidpur, and was currently living in the New Haiderganj locality under Thakurganj Police Station in Lucknow.During interrogation, the accused told police that he obtained the heroin from an individual operating in the Campbell Road area at relatively low prices. He then repacked the narcotic substance into smaller packets and sold them at higher rates in different parts of the city to earn significant profits.A case was registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at Chowk Police Station in the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.Investigators are working to determine who supplied the narcotics, the routes used for trafficking, and the identities of other individuals involved in the racket.
