Bengaluru has banned installation and worship of plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesha idols, GBA chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao said Tuesday. He urged citizens to choose only eco-friendly idols during Gowri-Ganesha festival.Speaking at a ‘Peace and Harmony’ meeting organised by GBA and police ahead of the festival, Rao said adequate arrangements will be made for idol immersion, including at designated facilities and temporary tanks near lakes.Single-window centres will be opened at sub-divisional offices of the five city corporations, with officials from the civic body, police, Bescom and fire and emergency services to issue necessary permissions.Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said processions must adhere to prescribed routes and timings to minimise traffic disruption. Strict action will be taken against violatiors, including those consuming alcohol during processions.
