Police arrest two people, recover over 15 kg of charas from their carTimes News NetworkKanpur: With the arrest of two people, police recovered 15.320 kg of charas from a white Alto car at Dadanagar Dhal under Fazalganj police station limits on Monday.Police recovered the contraband from a bag in the car, bearing registration number UP 35 AM 6469, and arrested two men–Ashmit Gautam (26), son of Rakesh Kumar Gautam, a resident of Dooda Colony,and Ayush Tiwari (25), son of Santosh Kumar Tiwari, a resident of 392 Kazi Khera, Lal Bangla, Chakeri.The breakthrough came under the supervision of the deputy commissioner of police (Central) and additional deputy commissioner of police (Central). The recovery and arrests were made by the police team of Fazalganj.During interrogation, the police learnt that both accused worked in event management. Ashmit Gautam, a gym operator, had been running a gym for about 4–5 years. In greed of earning more money, they brought illegal charas purchased at cheap rates from Nepal and supplied it at higher prices in nearby districts and in some districts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the police said.Police also learnt during interrogation that Asmit’s brother, Navit Gautam, was arrested in February 2026 in Rajasthan’s Sirohi district with 20 kg of illegal charas and was lodged in Sirohi district jail. Police said that after Navit Gautam went to jail, Ashmit carried on the illegal charas trade, and the accused used the money earned from the illegal narcotics trade to fulfil their expensive desires.DCP Atul Kumar Srivastava said the arrests dealt a major blow to the buy and sale of narcotic substances, and further detailed information was being gathered about the interstate syndicate and the accused persons’ criminal history. He said the arrested accused would be produced before the Court after further legal action.
